The Tooth!

Have you ever had a tooth ache? I think that’s the worst part of the body to have an ache in. Seriously! It literally makes your day incomplete. I have had this swollen gum and an achy tooth. Looks like my wisdom tooth is making it’s way out. But one of my friends warned me that it could be a false call too. So you never know…

Honestly, at the moment I have neither the time nor the money to visit a dentist. So I think I will have to live with it for some time, until I get used to it. So why am I ranting about it so much? WHY?

1. If you are a person like me who’s naturally talkative, and your achy tooth doesn’t let you talk. You live through the day with such discomfort and dissatisfaction. Your thoughts keep knocking at the outlet doors but they just can’t make an exit cz your mouth wouldn’t open properly. And your words don’t sound right. (Do you think the British would have less trouble on this one, cz they anyways hardly open their mouths much)

2. If you are a person like me who loves to enjoy a good meal, and your tooth doesn’t let you eat. You live through the day craving for good food and even if you get it you won’t be able to eat. So you live that day in discontent.

3. If you are a person like me who loves to smile, and your tooth doesn’t let you. It makes the day terrible. So not energetic, not positive! I don’t like that.

4. If you are a person like me who loves to doll up, and your tooth doesn’t let you cz one side of the face is a little swollen. It makes the day dull. What will the make-up do if you have a swollen face (LOL it looks weird I think)

5. If you are a person like me who likes to go out with friends, and your tooth doesn’t let you. The day feels so restricted. You want to get out but don’t want to feel bad cz you can’t eat or drink.

6. If you are a person like me who loves fresh breath, and the tooth doesn’t let you brush well. You will keep using the mouth wash every two hours (although unnecessarily)

So yeah all this and more, makes a tooth ache such a horrible ache to have!

Long story short

I want to tell you a story today – a story of this guy in Norman whose life was in a key…

Once upon a time (that is right now), there used to be a guy. He was tall, dark, but not handsome. (Let’s call him Jay) He was dating this girl in town – quiet, mature and sensible. Everyone in the town thought Jay was weird and socially awkward, so they wondered how such a nice girl fell for this jack ass. But love is blind…

So anyways, they were so much in love that they couldn’t stay away from each other. So technically they should have just moved in together. But since Jay was a hypocrite, he told his girl friend to live with a roommate and then he will just stay at her place unofficially. The girl listened to every word Jay said. So she did the same. They caught hold of this girl who was moving into the town, Somy. So she moved in with Jay’s girl, not knowing what she was getting into. Obviously she didn’t have a clue about Jay’s existence. She thought she was going to stay with this nice girl peacefully for the rest of the semester. Somy was going through some tough times, emotionally, personally, professionally, so getting a nice apartment and a nice roommate seemed like some relief to her.

Soon after she moved into the apartment, she found out that there was going to be a permanent visitor in the house, Jay. He used to go back to his house in the beginning, but soon he moved into the apartment with his stuff and never used to go back to his original apartment. Jay was very comfortable in the girls’ apartment. So comfortable that without any hesitation, he would use everything in the apartment – living room, kitchen, bathroom (eeewwww). This loving couple used to stay at home most of the time, while Somy used to go out a lot for work and leisure. Unfortunately, there was only one key to the apartment (long story). So Jay’s girlfriend and Somy figured a way so that none of them gets locked out because of limited access to key. Their method was a six sigma! It worked perfectly, until Jay interfered. Because of him Somy used to get locked out of the house. Not once but nine to ten times a month. After every lock-out incidence, Jay will give Somy a lame reason and apologize. So sweet of him! But would repeat the same thing the next time. After the last incidence Somy was really pissed and was talking to him telling him how he should be more careful about it. And Jay said sorry and started looking at the computer screen, totally ignoring Somy.

Well, it was like asking Somy ‘Please take the key with you or I will lock you out’. That’s what she did. She started taking the key with her thereafter. And guess what, neither Jay nor his girlfriend ever got locked out when the key was with Somy. But Somy didn’t know a secret…

She didn’t know that key was not an ordinary key. This key was Jay’s life. So if the key was taken away from his eyes, he would freak out and become restless. To get the keys back he would do anything to everything. He won’t mind yelling, screaming or going crazy. All he would want at that moment was THE KEY!!! So what if he is an illegal resident at the apartment? So what if he had moved into girls’ apartment without thinking about how it will affect other girl’s life? So what if he didn’t pay the rent? So what if he was such a pain in the ass for his girl friend’s roommate? Nope! All this doesn’t matter. What matters is that when Jay steps out of not-his apartment, he should have the key with him.

Since Somy didn’t know all this, she dared to take the key with her one morning when she went to the mailbox to check if she got any mail. Before she was back, Jay woke up. And he didn’t find the key in the usual place. OMG! He freaked out. Of course… his life was in danger. He called Somy right then! In his loud and rude voice he said, “Where is the key?” That day Somy lost it. She was putting up with Jay’s crap from the day one. His presence was annoying, but she adjusted. But if this control freak gets instructional, that’s beyond the acceptable limits. Knowing the character of the guy, Somy had already told her roommate that she doesn’t want to/have to deal with Jay. If there is something to be talked about, it will be discussed only by the girl. So well… Somy said the same thing to Jay that morning “I don’t want to deal with a manner-less guy who doesn’t know how to talk to ladies” Damn! She should have known that 1. She had dared mess with Jay’s life (the key). 2. She had dared to ignore Jay who was suffering from how-dare-you-avoid-me syndrome. “No, you talk to me!!” Haha you think Somy is crazy or what?

So Somy kept trying to get her roommate out of her room. While Jay kept yelling at Somy, she multi-tasked - sipping on cold water, ignoring the wild, out of control Jay, and knocking on roommate’s door so she comes out and puts her boyfriend on leash. And wow it took her 10 minutes to put herself together and step out.

Now the battle ground was set: 1, 2, 3 and shoot!!! Half an hour of non-stop yelling, screaming, pointing, blaming, defending, examples, dates, incidences. Jay went ballistic! He was yelling at Somy at the top of his voice, complaining that she took the key. Huh? Dude! You are a damn illegal unwanted visitor! Know your place.

The girl tried to calm him down, but didn’t succeed. Somy announced that she is not saying a word to Jay! Talking to Jay was like volunteering to bang your head on the wall. So after all said and done… Somy was upset with this treatment. Her parents had raised her to be sophisticated and dignified. And surely this ill treatment was unnecessary and totally uncalled for. After this insult and disrespect she wouldn’t stay in that house. She doesn’t need to deal with an insane uncivilized uncouth barbarian. She moved out the same day (thank her friends, Rajib and Ana).

Jay should definitely think about investing in classes like anger management, how to talk to females, how to behave well, moral science etc. May be he skipped these lessons while in school.

Now Somy is at Ana’s place and loving it. While Jay is in the same apartment paying the whole rent and bearing burden of his deeds (God’s watching).

P.S. Somy’s roommate was a nice girl. If she happens to read this, she should understand that she is a very nice person and she deserves someone better than a jerk like Jay; someone who knows how to respect women, gives her right to decide for herself, not be a control freak and take care of his girl well.

Summer for me is synonym to style. It’s time for me to get back in shape and flaunt the chic-est clothes in the wardrobe. While colors stay in fashion, white wins the prize for my favorite color this summer (like every other summer).

Why wear white this summer? Top Reasons:
  • A white dress goes very well from day to evening. Wear a nice white dress to work with a brown/black belt and a sophisticated bag. Throw the belt away at night and accessorize with jazzy jewelry to add drama! Everything goes great with white
  • Blessed with curves? Show’em off! Put on a white tank top and flaunt those divine curves. This is one thing everyone should have: to wear with jeans. Or with anything, actually. It’s something that can never go wrong.
  • Great for layering
  • For that polished and sophisticated look or from that just-out-of-bed look; white can be used for both and more!
  • I love Black too. But it is so common and I am not fat yet! I will save it for winter. White is pure and bright and it even brightens the accessories used. Brings in an urbane femininity - ruffles, bows and strings – win win!
  • Brightens skin complexion
  • And of course, it keeps you cool and chic though out the summer!

Why?

Past few days have been crazy busy. I have been wanting to write about so many things, but haven't had enough time to write. Yeah! I hate that excuse too. So, I decided that I am going to sit down tonight and write just a little bit about whatever.

I went to work the other day and found my supervisor was out for the day. I was surprised because she is usually at work before me and announces loud and clear if she plans on not coming to work the next day. Then what happened today? Why is she not at work and that too with out a notice? I asked the receptionist if she had any clue… (The receptionist is a super talkative lady with a thick sing-song southern accent, who just turned 60 yesterday!) So she says “Awww you know scruffy is so ill and he is in the hospital and very critical too. So supervisor had to be with him today. He needs her you see” “Oh! That’s sad. I am sorry”.

Trust me folks, I meant every word I said to her. I was genuinely sad. Not because Mr. Scruffy was ill (well yeah about that too), but more than that… because I was jealous of him. Yes! Jealous of a dog. And I am sure a lot of other people would be too. I don’t know why, but the first thing that came to my mind after hearing this was… if people have the time to spare, the money to spend and the need of affection, why don’t they adopt a baby?

Not that I don’t like the idea of having pets. The only thing that bothers me is that people, so easily, ignore the fact that there are so many kids in the world who never lived their childhood; never had families; never had or will have anyone to take them to the hospital if they fall sick. And I don’t want anyone to adopt a child out of pity. I am just surprised how adopting a human child is not usually our first choice over adopting a puppy…

Please understand... For heaven's sake!

How many times have I heard this? “Sowm, you are so complicated”. Huh? Which girl isn’t? You want a girl but you want her not to be complicated, not to have her issues, not to be hard to handle at times… good luck with that! You are not gonna find any such girl. And if you get lucky enough to find one, trust me she won’t be fun. And honestly, I think I am not THAT difficult to be handled after all. I am vocal, straight forward and clear about things. I mean understanding is a different issue altogether. If the guy knows how to handle the girl, he will be fine…

So all you losers who have been struggling to find a way to handle a girl, here’s some useful info for you…
  • Girls are complicated. Accept it. They will always be. They will cry when they are happy and they will cry when they are sad. But you will know the difference.
  • Girls are not THAT complicated. Don’t try to read any signs. They are pretty straight forward these days; they will tell you what they want. (It’s not a Shah Rukh Khan movie where ‘larki ki na me haan chhupa hota hai’)
  • PMS/Mood swings – They can be real bitches during this time. Just tell them what they want to hear. Don’t argue and make them feel everything is normal. They just want to be pampered.
  • Girls want to feel special. Romance, surprises and candle lit dinners are not gay! We still like it…
  • Don’t overdo it. Way too romantic all the time = BORE. We want guys to be naughty, playful and flirtatious at times. A good sense of humor and a smart mind is a plus… too much lovey-dovey doesn’t work all the time. Girls like to have fun too.
  • If she hangs up on you once… she expects you to call her back. If she hangs up on you twice… text her!
  • We respect honesty – don’t lie! (This one is a little tricky) If the girl tells you she is gaining weight and needs to exercise, don’t just fake that you think she looks perfect. She knows she doesn’t. You are in a spot here… handle it diplomatically… just say ‘I don’t think so, but I guess I will have to hit the gym too to keep up with you. You will be in perfect shape and all hot after working out’ there are some questions you can’t answer with a plain ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
  • Make her feel special – not just by words, but also actions. Every girl deserves it. Remember all those times when you vented your frustrations at her? Yelled at her for no reason - When she took care of you - Motivated you to do your best - Strengthened you when you were weak - Loved you selflessly
  • Return the favor: as simple as it is… for everything she has done for you, she expects only one thing from you – be there for her. Not just physically, but also emotionally.
  • Don’t be an asshole. Politeness can still win hearts… be a gentleman to her!
  • Be that support system she is looking for – easiest way to lose your girl is to leave her alone when she needs you. Trust me you will lose her in no time! Cz she is most likely to find someone who will be there at the right spot at the right time. And it’s very easy to steal a girl when she is vulnerable.
  • Protect her, but don’t make her feel she can’t handle herself. That’s a no-no. Never tell a girl she can’t. (and you know she is right)
  • Give her 100% attention. Listen to her when she talks to you. Give inputs. She will appreciate that.
  • Don’t judge her all the time. If she likes you and is comfortable with you. She will say meaningless little things every now and then. Don’t bother. Just let her be, she is just trying to be cute. Smile and say you love her. You will get more than what you expect from her.
  • Girls enjoy conversations. Talk to her. Trust me she will fall for you all over again after a meaningful conversation.
These are some things I can think of at the moment. Don’t try to study a girl’s psychology. You know you can’t understand it. Don’t even try. Just take it easy and you will see how easy it is to handle your babe. And if you take care of her, she will take care of you. You keep her happy and you know she will not leave you :)

P.S. I am sure I missed out some points. So folks, if you think there is something interesting I should include… inputs welcome :)
