Mysterious voice messages ;)

11.22pm. Cold. I stepped out of the theater and there were two voice messages. Huh? How come? My phone never rang. There were no missed calls. Then why voice messages?

Voice message 1:

It was clear and I could precisely tell what needed to be conveyed. BUT it was incomplete. The person left it off in the middle of the sentence and I couldn’t figure out what he meant.

Voice message 2:

Loud music/video games back ground. Long… Very long recording. But no words. Only music. I could tell there were people talking among themselves. But words were not clear. So I have no idea who called.

So… if the people who left these messages happen to read this, please call back :)

Welcome me back… I just got back to school from a long relaxing vacation. And honestly, it feels really good to be back to where I belong. This is my last semester at OU, but for some reason I feel I have been deprived of the normal student life. I never got a chance to be on the campus for a long time. In a two year course I moved two campuses and for internship. So I never really had a chance to be with people who were like me for very long… I did make some great friends along way. But I still missed out on stupid talks… like how weird/irritating the professor for the xyz course is, or gossip about the guy who claims to be single but spends 20 hours a day with a girl who is just-a-friend, or make fun of the girl in class who wore a high-school- times like clothes to class, or talk about this cute guy in the class.

Never mind… for now, I am back to school again. Just moved into my new apartment…

I still remember when I first came from India... I was at my uncle’s house at Texas for Christmas before I moved to Norman. He came to drop me with family. We entered the house and my housemate showed us the apartment and my room. We all saw it and sat in the living room for a while. None of us knew what to say to each other.

The apartment was nothing better than a shit hole… old, dirty, and very dim lit. (It wasn’t my roommate’s fault. I think it was because the people who stayed there signed the lease long time ago and then they just kept moving out and bringing new people in). And the girl whose room I was taking over didn’t clean after herself.

I definitely was under a shock and it took me some time to digest the fact that I will be staying there for the rest of the semester. Just after that I got up and started cleaning. Trashed all the old stuff, got the beds and furniture changed and set my stuff up. The room eventually became livable and I got used to it. And then I got a cool roommie to share the room with. Not bad!

At the end of the semester we moved to a new apartment, and then I moved again and again and again. Lifestyle also improved (way too much I think).

I took last semester off for internship. And the company made our stay arrangements in a hotel. Man! It was nice! By the end of the semester I was used to the comfortable bed, wooden floors, flat screen TV and housekeeping. Yes, totally spoilt!

And then I came back to school. The world truly goes round. And I found a place in the same campus and the very same apartment complex where I stayed when I first came to the states. On the way to Norman, my heart was crying that I will have to stay in the same old kind of apartment. I somehow made my mind (cz anyways I didn’t have any other option). And I knocked the door, my would-be roommie answered.

She showed me my room and gosh! To my surprise the house was pretty clean. I didn’t have to clean at all before unpacking. Very nice I thought. Now I have unpacked and kind of settled in. When I arrived I had absolutely nothing with me. No bed sheets, pillows or comforter to sleep in. no food. Absolutely nothing!

One kind friend agreed to take me shopping the very same day. And the best buy of the day was my bedding. It made my day. I usually prefer to buy bed-in-a-bag for my bed. But this store didn’t have much options… choose from boring maroon, navy blue or dark green… plaid, stripes or checks. No fun! All dull colors and designs.

My life is anyways pretty dull these days; I don’t want my room to look the same way. Actually I will be spending a lot of time in my room this semester so I wanted a nice looking room, comfortable and bright. Something that reflects positive vibes… hope happiness and fun.

So I decided to pick everything separately. And not go for the cheapest available stuff; but stuff that feels good. I ended up choosing an all black bed sheet and pillow covers for a dark base. A bright soft turquoise comforter. And threw a red velvet cushion to bring life to the whole set up. Good thing, my room has two windows this time…. So more light!

Now I just need a black rug, some cushions and a floor lamp, and my room will be perfect.

I am happy :)

I am on a month long holiday. Off responsibilities, off work, off internet. I will be back end of next month. And of course the labyrinth will be active again when I post my experiences :)
See you then.

Adventures of miss little Gini Part 4 (Continued)

On the way back…

Karan’s flight was at 12.30 pm. I was flying the same day, but I had to skip breakfast cz he wanted to be at the airport well in advance. Gosh! He is forty sometimes. Anyways, so I was all cranky and irritable. While leaving for the boarding gate he said, “You can go eat now. Your flight is only at 2.30... So you still have three hours.”
“Yes I will”

Pushkar had come to drop us to the airport too. So we decide to go to terminal E to eat. Obviously, international terminals have better food options, and I felt like eating a sandwich so I had to find a good sandwich place. Nothing else I knew would satisfy me but a sandwich.

We took the shuttle and reached the terminal. The restaurants were not great, no dine-in. But we managed to find a decent sandwich place and I ordered an oven roasted chicken sandwich, chips and drink. Yumm. Yeah there are times when food is the priority in my life. I can just smell taste and feel it. And that’s all matters for me in that moment. Fooooooood… top it with conversation.

After I had my oven roasted chicken sandwich meal, I felt so satisfied. Now it was time to take the shuttle back to the terminal A. Just before I was to get down, I thought it would be a good idea to keep my printed tickets handy. After all I should be responsible and a little more organized. So here I go… I have a look at the tickets and WHAT???

I didn’t know how to react. As always, in such a situation I took escape to laughing. I looked at Pushkar and said, “I think I have missed my flight.”
He didn’t believe me. He had a look at the tickets himself. “OMG yes it’s true. You missed your flight.” And to my surprise he started laughing too.
So we rushed to the counter and then my old style whining starts again… “Give me a minute madam”
Silence…
“Yes ma’am today has been a very busy day. I doubt if we can put you on a different flight. So… hey wait. Ms. Bhardwaj, you are lucky. The plane you were to fly on got delayed. It’s still on the gate.”
“NOWAY! Are you kidding me? LOL. Thanks”

Wow. Thank god!

Well yeah, since I checked in late my bag didn’t arrive Peoria with me. Took one extra day. And I had all my basic stuff, make up in that bag and I had to live without my favorite perfume for one whole day. But all is well cz I got my bag in one piece with nothing missing, broken or stolen from it.

I have recovered from the trip, had two busy days at work and am out of that mood now. But this story definitely had to make it to my blog.

Adventures of miss little Gini Part 4

Yes, this is a sequel. But this one is a different trip. I was in Boston for holiday this year. I loved the city. It’s young, beautiful and has a very traditional feel to it. It’s a big city for sure, but still very chilled out and pretty clean. My stay there was interesting and it is definitely on my to-return list. But my journey to and from Boston was equally interesting.

I was supposed to fly out of Peoria at 6 am. Which meant that I should have left home by five. A friend came to drop me to the airport and called me from the parking lot to tell me that he arrived ten minutes before five. I opened my sleepy eyes and said hello; and looked at the time and SNAP!! I was supposed to wake up and four and pack for the trip.

“Do you want to come upstairs and wait, I might take around 15 minutes.”
“Alright”

Phew! Rush! Brush! Pack! Change! Off to airport!

“I am so sorry. I don’t know how I over slept” (Such a lie. As if this happened first time)
“That’s alright”
“Yeah, it’s too early for me to be up”
“Looks like you are not a morning person”
“Yeah I am surely not”
Music in the car
“Crap!! I forgot my Passport”
“What? Really? It’s too late to go back to get it now”
“Never mind, I have my state ID. Just that I will have a holiday where I won’t be allowed in any clubs or bars, but that’s fine. I should have remembered before leaving home. I do this every time. Always forget something or the other. Last time it was toothbrush, so I managed but this time it’s my passport, I can’t buy a new passport from Boston. But it’s my fault. … “ (Too much whining)

“Okay okay I will drop you off and get your passport from your room. Just hope that I get back in time” “Really? I don’t want to bother you (you are so good but it will surely be great if you get it for me thanks) Thanks” Ticket Counter – Security check - Board plane “Ma’am, some one left this for you” “Thanks” (OMG finally I have it. My passport! Oh my passport)

Off to Boston. Vacation. Fun times. Wonderful!!
